About Mission from Minnesota
Mission from Minnesota is a group of average Minnesotans who, like you, want to "just do something" to provide relief for the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
We are a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Our goal is to create volunteer projects that meet the tangible needs of survivor communities and leave volunteers inspired by what they've accomplished.
Since its inception, Mission from Minnesota has:
- Sent a motor coach to Houston with much-needed supplies and delivered 31 people from the desperation of the Astrodome, including:
- 20 people who moved in with family in Dallas
- 7 people who moved in with family in Chicago
- 4 people who started a new life in Minneapolis
- Provided bus transportation for more than a dozen hurricane victims who needed to travel across the country to be reunited with family.
- Matched up several hurricane victims with sponsor families in Minnesota.
- Outfitted a group of Minnesotans who went on an impromptu cleanup and reconstruction trip to Slidell, Louisiana, with saws, tools and other supplies.
- Helped fund and load a 26-foot truck with vital supplies, destined for Jones County, Mississippi, a hard-hit rural area that received relatively little government or agency aid.
- Contributed gas cards, clothing and food donations to the 42 evacuee families being aided by Urban Oasis in MPLS.
- Acted as a resource for several churches and agencies aiding evacuees in terms of apartment lists and sources of furniture.
- Collaborated with the local Mocha Moms chapter in adpoting Katrina families for clothing needs.
- Provided local transport to Katrina evacuees.
- Worked with Hilltop Elementary School in Inver Grove Heights to deliver more than 60 backpacks filled with toys, activity books and school supplies to needy children in Mississippi.
- Helped fund the 8-week continuing operation of a 26' truck that shuttled food and supplies from distribution centers to needy communities in Mississippi and Louisiana.
